2013 Pre-season Grapefruits and other dates
Grapefruits start 2 April 6.30 start at Cutteslowe Park but it's first come, first served (we're in competition with the footballers) - the pitches are not booked.n 4 Tuesdays up to 23 Apriln nn 30 April line marking , plus umpiring course, plus scoring course.n nn First game on 7th May n nn First four weeks, there will be training on Thursdays up to C+/B standard (also rookie training).n nn Coaching course L1 on 6/7 April. Full now, though.n nn 30 April umpiring course (same night as line marking).n
End of Season Charity Event
The end of season awards event will be taking place on Saturday 29th September at the West Oxford Community Centre, Botley Road. . n nIn order to try and get the ball rolling with putting the event together we're asking for your help with a couple of things.n n Tickets n Tickets for the event are £10 each, with under 16s going free. There's going to be a buffet, a raffle, drinks (which everyone is welcome to bring their own bottles for if there are any specific tipples people enjoy!) a disco and much much more. There's no dress code (unless you want to get dolled up for the disco!). In addition, any profit that we make will be donated to a local charity Helen and Douglas House. n nWe would like your help in selling tickets to your teams please. What would be great is if we could have a representative for each team who take charge of selling tickets to the team. Tree and I will be in the bar after all the remaining league fixtures. If your volunteer can collect names and money and hand it over to us, we'll give out the tickets. As I say, one of the aims of the event is to try and raise some money for a great local charity so we're hoping lots of people will want to come! Kids, partners, friends etc are more than welcome!n n Photo competition n During the awards ceremony we're going to try and celebrate the lighter, more comedic side of softball. To that end we're going to run a photo competition to reward the person/team that provides us with the funniest photos/video of their team on or off the diamond. Please e-mail submissions to Jonathan and Treen n Comedy awards n In addition to the more traditional league awards, we also want to reward the league's characters and the best examples of slapstick softball from this season. We'd very much like your ideas for any awards we can create along these lines. Does your team have a particularly death-defying base-runner? Anyone prone to swearing at strikes? Any comedy temper-tantrums? Let us know about them...n n General help n We're hoping that the event is going to be a huge success, but Tree and I would particularly welcome anyone who would like to get on board with the organisation of the event/running of things on the day. Whether it's helping us come up with ideas for games, suggestions for the disco setlist, or even just volunteers to help us collect tickets on the night we'd gratefully receive any and all offers of help! League AGM & Committee Positions
The league AGM will take place in the bar at Rover on Tuesday 14th August after the last matches of the season. Please pass the following information on to all your team players. It is important that as many players attend the AGM as possible. n nThis is your chance to raise any issues for discussion with all teams as well as to vote in the Executive Committee for 2013. If anyone has any items they'd like to add to the Agenda please send them to me by Friday 10th August. All positions on the Executive Committee are open for nominations. Please pass this information on to your players and encourage them to come forward to help in the organising of the league. We really do need new people to come volunteer to take the league forward.n nChair - currently Stella Ackrell. Stella is standing down and will not be standing for re-election.nTreasurer - currently Jamie Parish. Jamie is standing down and will not be standing for re-election.nSecretary - currently Lesley Roberts. Lesley is standing down and will not be standing for re-election.nVice Chair - currently Chris Dore. Chris would consider being re-elected.nPlayer/League Rep - currently Jo Cross. Jo would consider being re-elected. n nThe Executive Committtee generally meet up twice during the winter months and ocassionally during the summer if decisions are required that cannot be discussed via email. Below is a brief outline of each position for you to consider.n nChair - Facilitates running of the league, liaises with Rover sports and social club, run meetings and make appropriate decisions after consultation with the Exec as required. Please talk to Stella to find out more.n nVice-Chair - Supports the Chair and steps in if necessary. Liaises with the Rover groundsman and organises the line marking at the beginning of each season. Talk to Chis Dore for more information.n nTreasurer - looks after the league funds. Liaises with Rover regarding fees, pays the league bills. Collects league fees from teams, sets a budget each season and generally makes sure we have enough money to see us through the year. Jamie has also organised the fixtures schedule for the past few years. I'm sure there are other smaller tasks, but for a full description please speak to Jamie if you are interested in this position.n nSecretary - takes the minutes at meetings and AGM. Sends information round to Captains. Talk to Lesley for more information on this position.n nPlayer/League Rep - attends Exec meetings as a player rep and generally helps the Exec out with the organising of the league. Talk to Jo Cross for more information.n nPlease remember, the league cannot run with an Executive Committtee, the 3 people definitely standing down have taken on these roles for several years now and will not be standing for re-election. If you would like to stand for a position on the Executive Committee, or one of you team members is interested, please email me with nominations by Friday 10th August.
